A semiconductor metal in gray A semiconductor metal in gray and shiny appearance is the Silicon. It is also known as Industrial Silicon or Crystalline Silicon. Silicon is commonly used as an additive for non-ferrous alloys which are smelted from quartz and coke in an electric furnace. The metallic silicon can be classified on the basis of iron, calcium and magnesium contents.

In the world China is the biggest producer of world’s rare earth metals. These rare metals are not so hard to get but the process in refining them is hard and complicated. China controls more than 80 percent of the world’s rare earth metal production. From Lithium to Silicon, different countries depend on China for different purposes including day to day uses like running the electric cars, smart phones, technological devices, solar panels etc.

But now the EU has started to rethink their over dependence on China for the rare earth metals. The EU’s Internal Market Commissioner Thierry Breton’s said in the New Year Eve’s statement, signaling that Brussels aims to enact a

law to empower itself with emergency powers to secure its supplies, including rare earth metals. He also added “It’s not about producing everything in Europe, but securing the entire supply chain.”

Europe could not stop the import of rare metals from China because there is no backup plan yet implemented when they go short of the rare earth metals. The pandemic has already proven this fact. Though Europe does not have significant rare earth reserves like that of China, they can import from countries like Australia, Brazil, Canada, South Africa, Tanzania, Greenland, and the United States instead of China. But the low priced products of China can’t be beaten by any of these countries because it will take years for those countries to reach China’s level.

China has developed massively from the year 1957 and this trend is still continuing with great difference compared to all previous years. Till date China has more than 600 industrial silicon enterprises in operation and more than 200 company’s carry out the production of industrial silicon. There are no products of dimension or specification that the Chinese metal silicon manufacturers can’t produce.

While comparing the production of industrial silicon in China to that of other countries, there are only 50 or less than fifty silicon metal manufacturers in more than 10 countries. But China itself is having more than 200 silicon metal manufacturers as mentioned earlier. This consists of different industries particularly, ferrous metallurgy, nonferrous metallurgy, machinery and chemical industry.

All these industries together make China’s annual output of silicon higher. So we can undoubtedly say that China has a pivotal role in the development of the world silicon industry and related industries. The rise in silicon metal production is visible through the year-on-year statistics, which clearly says that a major growth is visible in the production of silicon all over China. The manufacturers may face challenges and problems but the production is not disturbed at a high rate.

January 05, 2022

There has been great changes in the prices of Silicon metal in the year 2021. So the industries are looking keen into 2022 what major changes can happen to the prices of silicon. In the year of 2021 a survey conducted reveals the statistics that China had 300,000 tons of industrial silicon metal output just in the month of November. And this marks a 10 percent increment from the previous month. So the year-on-year increase will be around 29.5 percent.

2020-Future of Silicon Metal Prices

Rorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipisicing elit, sed

The data’s indicates that Xinjiang and Fujian contributed most to the industrial silicon metal production. But at the same time there was decline in the production in the areas Yunnan, Sichuan and Heilongjiang Province in the month of November. While looking to the month December, the cost of electricity for the production of silicon metal increased. But this hasn’t affected the production as the industrial metal silicon is on high demand. So that marked a 33.6 percent of year-on-year increase. Which is higher than that of November.

In 2022 also this trend of increased production will continue and the production data can be surprising compared to that of 2021.
